In 1998 Buckland was commissioned to photograph The Africa Centre for Population Health. This Research Institute works to be a source of fundamental discoveries into the susceptibility, transmission and cure of HIV and TB and related diseases. It is located in Hlabisa Somkhele, Mtubatuba, a rural area in Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Buckland documented the building process, from the foundations, life on site including dust storms, portraits of construction builders, to the final completion of the building taken in colour.
